Number 7

The number 7, through its hidden virtues, tends toward the fulfillment of all things. It is the dispenser of life and the source of all its changes. It divides human life into seven periods, for just as the moon changes its phases every seven days, this number influences all sub-lunar beings and even the Earth, as we know. A child’s teeth appear in the seventh month and are lost at seven years old; at two times seven (14), puberty begins; at three times seven (21), their mental and vital faculties are developed; at four times seven (28), they are at their peak of vitality and strength; at five times seven (35), their passions reach their greatest development. The same occurs with the Earth, which is now in its middle age and yet still possesses little wisdom for it.

It is fascinating how often patterns and seasons appear throughout life. This made me think less about the power of a particular number and more about the God who established order in the first place. From the very beginning, He gave us the rhythm of evening and morning, work and rest, seedtime and harvest, days and seasons. โ€œTo every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavenโ€ (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

I think there is something comforting in that. Life may feel terribly random while we are living it, but we belong to a God of order, not confusion. Every season will not look alike, and I certainly hope wisdom isn’t restricted to arriving on a seven-year scheduleโ€”I have missed a few appointments if it is! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But every season gives us another opportunity to grow in it.

What a beautiful comment, thank you for sharing! I completely agree: there is profound comfort in knowing that, behind the apparent chaos, there is a greater order that sustains each cycle of our lives. Seven, precisely, reminds us of thisโ€”as do the other numbers, not as a rigid formula of “wisdom arrives in seven years,” but as a symbol that every process of transformation has its own rhythm, and that this rhythm doesn’t always coincide with our personal calendar. That’s why we should always be attentive to the changes that occur in our lives; they always come to tell us something.
